InHealth Imaging Centre Newman Street

Working for InHealth, we completed the refurbishment of the new Imaging Centre in Newman Street.  The project involved the strip-out of an existing retail unit and music studios, to create a new imaging space adjoined to InHealth's existing MRI facility in the building next door.

Scope of the Project

The existing basement area of the building had previously been used as a music studio, and as a result had walls containing sand (for noise management) which all required removing to allow for the reconfiguration of the space.   A new steel and concrete staircase was installed and the entire internal space reconfigured to create a new MRI, Easoate Open MRI, X-ray, control room, tech room, reporting room, administration offices, reception, toilets, canteen, data centre, kitchen and waiting room.

Challenges

Located on a busy London thoroughfare, the site presented considerable logistical challenges with no availability for parking, materials delivery or storage.  This issue was further compounded but the presence of a large construction site, opposite our site. These constraints presented additional challenges, for the equipment delivery.

Our Approach

Apollo addressed these challenges by building a temporary storage area within the site boundary.  Works were phased, and logistics carefully planned to ensure materials were delivered just-in-time to minimise storage.  To facilitate the delivery of the new equipment, Apollo propped up the existing lightwells to both this building and the building next door, ensuring the necessary structural support.

Innovation

This refurbishment was completed with the existing, adjacent MRI imaging facility remaining in full use.  Physical hoarding separated the construction area from patients and staff.  A number of dust control measures including HEPA dust cubes, extraction, tack matts, dust guards and regular cleaning regimes were implemented to minimise the potential for dust egress from the site.
