radiotherapy treatment
With the constant advances in radiotherapy treatment, new equipment and technology coming into the UK market frequently. Working directly for the healthcare providers and the manufacturers (on a turnkey basis), Apollo is at the forefront of understanding and implementing the increasing structural and service demands of installing this state-of-the-art equipment.
state-of-the-art technologies
MR Linac Accelerator
The Magnetic Resonance Linear Accelerator (MR Linac) combines two technologies, an MRI scanner and a linear accelerator, to precisely locate tumours, tailor the shape of X-ray beams in real time and accurately deliver doses of radiation to moving tumours.
Combining the highly precise soft-tissue contrast of MRI scanning with precision radiotherapy in a single treatment technology has been one of the major challenges of modern radiotherapy research. The MR Linac is hoped to be especially effective for cancers that move during radiotherapy or change position between scanning and treatment.
The pioneering equipment could mean significant reduction in treatment times, side effects and inconvenience for patients. Apollo have been working with key equipment manufacturers and healthcare providers designing the clinical areas required to accommodate these machines. We will be installing the first machine for HCA in their Harley Street Clinic.
Proton Beam Therapy
Proton beam therapy is a radical new type of radiotherapy treatment. It uses high-energy or low-energy proton beams to treat cancer.
A part of the proton machine called a gantry directs proton beams at the area of the body that needs treatment. Protons treat cancer by producing a sudden burst of energy when they stop. So by directing the proton beams at a cancer and making them stop inside the tumour, they destroy the cancer, causing minimal damage to the nearby healthy cells.
