Scope of the Project
Apollo initially stripped out the existing retail / industrial unit to shell and core. Significant structural alterations were carried out to strengthen the basement, which could not support the weight of the proposed installation. New columns were installed to distribute the load of the new ground floor through the basement. The completed Imaging Centre included a new MRI, CT, X-ray, consulting rooms, treatment rooms, administration areas, changing rooms, welfare, a reception and waiting area. All works were completed whilst the upper floors of the business remained occupied by businesses.
Challenges
The delivery of the equipment presented a unique challenge on this project. The MRI was required to be maneuvered into place from the road, to the rear of the building. Weighing 8 tonnes, the MRI required significant temporary works to accommodate the weight.
Our Approach
Apollo made an application for both a road closure and pavement closure to facilitate moving the MRI into the building. The internal staircase was removed, and a steel bridge constructed to allow the MRI to be moved across the atrium and into position. The bridge was subsequently removed and staircase reinstated.
