Scope of the Project

This project involved the strip-out of the existing Cath Lab.  Minor structural alterations were then carried out to create a larger scanning room and control room, able to accommodate a larger number of people for training purposes.  The scope of works included modifications to the ventilation system, adaptations to the electrical services including the PCB and emergency lighting, a new leaded screen, observation window, ceilings, flooring and a full decoration package.

Challenges

The project involved multiple stakeholders, including a Consultant / Design Team and end users.  The requirements of the end users were specific to the use of the Cath Lab as a training facility, creating a number of last minute design changes.  Works were carried out whilst the adjacent surgical theatre remained in-use.

Our Approach

Apollo facilitated regular design workshops engaging all stakeholders, creating an open forum for discussion, speeding up decision-making and encouraging a collaborative environment.  All operational requirements were discussed and agreed in these workshops, ensuring the Design Team had a detailed knowledge of the unique requirements of the training facility.

Innovation

This project was completed whilst the Medway Maritime Hospital remained open to patients, this included the adjacent operating theatre remaining in use throughout.  Apollo were praised by the Hospital following completion, for the dust management arrangements and approach to minimising potential disruption.  A combination of tack mats, HEPA air cubes, tool extraction, dust guards on double doors created on all access and egress point to site were used to manage dust.  The Site Manager introduced a robust cleaning regime ensuring the site perimeter was subject to regular deep cleaning and all materials coming into and waste leaving the site were hygienically cleaned before movement...
